The name of the club is due to the fact that Pope Leo X, son of Lorenzo De Medici called the Magnificent, and was born Giovanni de Medici, spent some days
in the Pope Innocent VIII’s hunting residence located in that area. It had been transformed to a sumptuous villa by Pope Innocent’s successors (Alexander
VI, Julius II and Leo X). That villa was called "Castello della Magliana" or "Castello dei papi". The villa was enlarged and embellished thanks to some
famous artists such as Bramante, Sangallo, Raffaello.
Pope Leo X lived surrounded by scholars, musicians and artists. On November 24th 1521 the Pope received news of the capture of Milan by Cherles V troups and
fell ill in that residence. Some days later he died in the Laterano residence.
The Golf Club Parco de Medici hosted the European Club Cup Albacom Trophy ( 6 years) and the IBM Ladies Italian Open (3 years).
